I’m Rachael and here you’ll find the tales from our family’s house and garden. Our family includes Alex, the dad, who is not afraid to try and be handy;  me, the mama, who is on a very steep learning curve when it comes to keeping any kind of garden and bringing up to rambunctious boys; and the boys… five-year-old “M” and almost two-year-old “G”.

Speaking of which… The blog name comes from my first impressions of our house and garden. We had been living in the house for not even a week, and the first morning Alex went out to the back yard to get his bike to ride to work, he had his first close encounter of the possum kind - wee from a tree! As mornings went by, Alex would tell us about each new possum encounter, one most memorable was seeing the mama possum with a baby on her back. So, there are the possums! Once at work, the boys and I were busy soaking up every moment of nice weather in our new backyard, surrounded by an established herb garden containing two of the most massive rosemary plants this mama has ever seen. It didn’t take long for me to realise that rosemary is a lot like that other woody perennial, lavender, which attracts… you guessed it… bees!

So, there we were… In our new garden, surrounded! Surrounded by trees and plants I have no idea about, but find myself keen to learn, by the adventures the boys are sure to experience growing up in the garden, making this old house a home, and if all else fails, at least possums and bees are happy!
